Our learning programs are informed by the following two approved learning frameworks:
National Early Years Learning Framework
Victorian Early Years Learning Framework

The Reggio Emilia philosophy is an innovative and inspiring approach to early childhood education, which values the child as strong, capable, and resilient, rich with wonder and knowledge. The philosophy rides on the coat tails of the innate curiosity of children and aims to assist them with understanding their world and who they are in it.

Our curriculum has been influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education and is developed in accordance with the government’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF): Belonging, Being and Becoming. Both are a child-centered approach to learning and value the child as capable and rich with knowledge. We believe that the first place of learning for all children is their home. That is why we value you as the first teacher of your child and build on that learning.

We accumulate a collection of your child’s artwork, photos and record any observations made whilst spending time with your little one. This will highlight the development and skills your child has established over the time they have been with us.

Our portfolios are a complimentary keepsake of timeless memories you will be able to take away from your child’s time with us at Birches ELC.

Our educators and children work together to learn about and promote the sustainable use of resources and to ensure we continue to develop and implement sustainable practices. Our centre has an environmental strategy including the use of clean solar energy, recycling, use of recycled resources, energy efficiency, water conservation, composting and more.

You’re welcome to drop in and see your child or speak with an educator. You do not need to call and tell us you are coming; you are welcome at any time. We would love for you to come in and join in our programs – your participation is valued.

To further extend your child’s learning we also facilitate regular intentional teaching experiences such as:

Music and Movement
